EPISODE #73: How Can You Explain?
Kelly Dwyer, of Yahoo’s Ball Don’t Lie, has long been one of our favorite basketball writers (we read Behind the Box Score religiously.) So it was about time to have him come on the show.
Dan talks to Kelly about how he got started in his basketball obsession and his writing career. They talk about watching the game intelligently, and how to use some of the advanced stats to enhance your overall enjoyment of the game.
Then Kelly lets us know if the hot starts by the Bucks, Thunder, and Heat are for real and sustainable. In the process we hear why Dwyane Wade is our Jerry West.
All throughout, though, what you hear is love. And passion. About basketball. Basketball. Jeez.
Songs from the episode:
“I Like Everything About You” - Jimmy Hughes
“I Want to Take You Higher” - Sly and the Family Stone
“Eye Know” - De La Soul
“Heavy Makes You Happy” - The Staple Singers

Kelly Dwyer is an idiot. The Dodge Stratus is a fine automobile and driving one involves no sacrifice. The rest of the interview was great and you should have him back.
Sincerely,
Angry Q. Commenter

if zander hollander nba yearbooks were part of some sort of educational syllabus i’d be a rhodes scholar. also the stratus is a decent vehicle but it’s no dodge spirit.

Kelly was surprisingly intense. You’re becoming a pretty good interviewer, Dan.

yea i agree with whalley. dan you definitely have a good flow to your interviews. you seem to have questions ahead of time that you would like to ask, but they aren’t forced. its a free flowing conversation that occasionally touches on adult subjects…

[...] But Kobe worked. And there’s a reason why a left-handed banker off an offensive rebound without a dribble seems so natural to him. Even if he’s preening after he makes it. When you work, and it pays off, you deserve to preen. Even if it seems unseemly and show-offy and annoying. [...]
